If money wasn't an issue, all you would need to do is gut the entire bathroom and start over from scratch, but that is never the way to go. Instead, you need to assess what your budget allows and find the right places to save some money. Here are some simple ways that you save money renovating your bathroom.

1. Time
It may be inconvenient to shut down your bathroom for an extended period of time, but the more time you have, the more money you can save. This is not only because it means that you can do more of the work yourself, but also means that you can wait until items go on sale. This could mean hitting a 4th of July sale for some pieces, a fall going-out-of-business sale, and a winter end-of-the-year clearance sale. The more flexible you are, the more effectively you can shop around and wait until you find exactly what you want at a price that you can afford.

2. Multi Function
One of the best ways to save money renovating your bathroom is to choose to buy higher quality pieces that can provide more than one function. One area in which renovating can become costly is storage. This could mean hidden storage under a sink or in a cabinet or displayed storage like shelving, either built-in or separate. The key is to make sure that your storage area can do multiple things. You don't need a separate area for towels and another for hygiene products. If your storage is well designed, then you can do it all in one area. Another way to look at multi-functionality is to look at what you are already putting your bathroom and getting more from it. For example, if you plan on getting a new sink, then try to maximize the storage area that you will given under it.

3. Minimal Contracting
In the perfect situation, you will be able to do all of the renovating yourself. This will end of saving your thousands of dollars and may even give you an opportunity to learn some new skills and probably some patience. If you do have to hire a contractor, make sure that they are doing as little as possible. If you go to a major retailer like Lowes or Home Depot, they will be able to tell you how to do pretty much everything, as long as you are willing to learn. Many locations even offer free short classes that go over all of the basics. These classes are an excellent resource that you should take advantage of.

There are a lot of different ways that you can save money renovating your bathroom, but three of the most common ways to cut costs include: having a flexible time frame, purchasing materials that are multi-functional, and using as little professional contractors as possible.
